Problems for refugees living in modern Britain

Moving nations comes with some big challenges. Though various agencies have been instituted to assist immigrants and refugees from the moment they arrive in United Kingdom soil, the immigrant and refugee population still experiences a wide range of emotional, psychological and physical stress during their first year in the UK. Many have never experienced anything like the lifestyle that we take for granted and must transition unaided to the modern conveniences typical of British life.

Refugees think that the struggles they faced would be over once they arrived in the land of the freedom. And so did many of the refugees. We learn, however, that this is far from the case. Refugees, and immigrants especially, are faced with many barriers once they arrive on our shores. Here are just a few:

  1. Difficulty speaking and learning English
  2. Raising children and helping them succeed in school
  3. Access to higher Education and the Economic Integration of Refugees
  4. Securing work
  5. Accessing services
  6. Securing housing
  7. Transportation
  8. Cultural barriers
