Difficulty speaking and learning English

The UK is not exactly known for being multilingual. So arriving in UK, unable to speak English, can be harrowing for refugees and immigrants. Being able to communicate – or not so – affects every area of life in which we have to interact with others. From jobs to schooling or simply finding your way around or buying food in a supermarket, learning the native language is essential.

Trying to get a job, socialising with new people, or even completing basic tasks like buying food or filling out forms, can be massively difficult. To address this, many refugees and immigrants enrol for English language courses, but finding the time between jobs and caring for kids can be difficult, let alone the expense. At Call For Duty we know it can be especially difficult for those who weren’t particularly literate in their native tongue, let alone trying to communicate with others in their locale in Britain.  It is this problem and dilemma which, in the main, motivates us to see our project succeed.
